Nollywood stars have taken to social media to mourn the sudden death of actress, producer, and filmmaker Allwell Ademola, who passed away on Saturday.

The 43-year-old Yoruba film star was pronounced dead at Ancilla Hospital, Agege, Lagos, after she reportedly suffered a heart attack at her residence.

“With heavy hearts and total submission to the will of God, we announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, and aunt, Princess Allwell Ademola, who departed this life on Saturday, the 27th day of December, 2025, at the age of 49,” the deceased’s family announced in a statement.

The family described her as a proud daughter of the Ademola family of Ogun State and a great-granddaughter of the Alake of Egbaland, noting that she was a gifted and passionate creative who distinguished herself from childhood as a “thespian, actor, singer, and filmmaker, touching many lives through her art, talent, and unwavering dedication to the creative industry.”

Before tribute messages and candlelight emojis started to surface online, filmmaker Seun Oloketuyi was among the first to pay tribute to the deceased in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Veteran Nollywood actress Faithia Williams wrote via her Instagram page, “Haaaa. This hit me so bad. Eniobanke.” In another post, she wrote, “Our Balogun, as you usually call me, you mean I won’t hear this again? Please call me and tell me you are just joking.”

Actor Damola Olatunji posted a candlelight image with the caption “Life is a mirage.”

An emotional response came from actress Bidemi Kosoko, who expressed disbelief at the news. “No way. No, no, no. Ko possible ooo. This isn’t true. God forbid, in Jesus’ name,” she wrote, adding that she refused to accept the actress’ death.

She added, “I refuse to accept this one lai lai. Olorun oni je. Just reply to my message, abeg oremi, aunty mi. I will wait patiently for your reply.”

Similarly, actress Mide Martins described the day as a dark one for the industry. “Black Saturday. This is not fair. May God forgive your shortcomings, Allwell,” she wrote on Facebook.

The late actress was often regarded as a versatile creative force in Nollywood. She worked as an actress, filmmaker, director, singer, and scriptwriter and was celebrated for her contributions to the Yoruba segment of the industry.

Born on August 9, 1983, in Lagos State, Ademola comes from a royal family in Abeokuta, Ogun State. She was the granddaughter of Justice Adetokunbo Ademola, Nigeria’s first Chief Justice.

She began her entertainment career as a child actor in 1986 on NTA’s Animal Games and officially joined Nollywood in 1992. She later gained prominence with roles in films such as You or I (2013), Omo Emi (2017) and Aye Keji.

Beyond acting, she also pursued music, forming her band, Allwell and Company, in 2002, releasing an album in 2006 and formally inaugurating the group in 2010.
