North Korea Calls US‑Israel Attacks on Iran “Illegal”

North Korea on Sunday denounced the ongoing military campaign by the United States and Israel against Iran as an “illegal act of aggression”, saying it exposed Washington’s “rogue” character.

In a statement published by the Korean Central News Agency, a spokesperson for Pyongyang’s foreign ministry described the strikes as “an illegal act of aggression and the most despicable form of violation of sovereignty in their nature from A to Z”.

“The DPRK condemns in the strongest tone the shameless rogue act of the US and Israel,” the official added, using the abbreviation for North Korea’s formal name.

Pyongyang further accused Washington and Israel of choosing to “abuse military muscle in order to realise their selfish and hegemonic ambition”.

Despite longstanding hostility between North Korea and the United States, Washington has in recent months sought to restart high-level talks with Pyongyang, with the aim of arranging a possible summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year.

After largely ignoring those overtures for months, Kim said this week that the two countries could “get along” provided Washington accepted Pyongyang’s status as a nuclear-armed state.
