Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, a member of the NPP communications team, has expressed regret and apologised for a controversial statement he made prior to the elections.
Gyewu-Appiah had declared that he would take his own life by dousing himself in kerosene and setting himself ablaze if the NDC, led by John Dramani Mahama, won the presidential election.
However, following Mahama’s victory, Gyewu-Appiah has retracted his statement, explaining that it was never meant to be taken literally. “It was all political talk,” he clarified, adding that his words were made in the heat of political discourse and intended to energise party supporters rather than convey a genuine intent.
He further admitted that his remarks were inappropriate and pledged to exercise greater caution in the future. “I deeply regret my words and promise to never make such remarks again,” Gyewu-Appiah stated, appealing for forgiveness from the public.
