Togo authorities have ruled out the existence of an organised abduction network following recent reports of missing persons across the country, officials said Friday.
The announcement came during a joint press briefing at the Ministry of Communication, attended by ministers in charge of security, communication, territorial administration, and justice.
The briefing reviewed investigations conducted between December 1, 2025, and February 28, 2026.
According to Colonel Calixte Batossie Madjoulba, Minister of Security, 86 of 102 reported missing persons have been located, including 63 minors.

The remaining 16 individuals, comprising 14 adults and 2 minors, are still being actively searched, though officials noted that these cases do not currently pose cause for concern.
“No evidence allows, at this stage, for establishing the existence of a structured criminal network for abducting people in Togo. Nevertheless, the investigations continue in order to clarify all reported cases,” the Ministry of Security wrote on X on Saturday.
To improve public safety, the government has intensified surveillance and enhanced coordination with local authorities.
