The Ondo State Government has banned commercial motorcyclists from operating between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., citing the worsening insecurity in the state. A ban was also imposed on cart-pushing in the state’s major metropolises.

The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corp), Adetunji Adeleye, made this announcement while parading 70 suspects for various offences on Wednesday. According to Adeleye, the ban on commercial motorcyclists was imposed to curb the shady activities of kidnappers, armed robbers, and criminals in the state.

He added that the ban has been imposed with immediate effect, and that all commercial motorcyclists have two weeks to register and collect certified eligibility documents before they can ride within the state.

“We want all Okada in the state properly documented. In the same vein, cart-pushing in major metropolises is banned. Mandatory registration of dealers and regulation of activities of scrap metal is going to be enforced, and prohibition of display of farm produce in unauthorised places,” said Adekeye.

Ondo State is slowly becoming a hotbed of violence as bandits continue to launch unprecedented attacks and wreak havoc across the state. Six church worshippers were kidnapped from the Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Expressway in the Owo Local Government Area of the state, during a midnight service during a midnight service in February.

Following their abduction, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, advised Christian and Islamic religious leaders in the state to suspend night worship due to the rising security challenges in the state.
