The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 55-year-old man, Ademola Joshua, over alleged incest and sexual abuse involving a minor.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said on Monday, January 5, that the suspect allegedly impregnated a 15-year-old girl.
He explained that one Adewale of Ilara-Mokin reported the case to the police on January 4, accusing Joshua of engaging in unlawful sexual relations with his sister’s daughter.

According to Jimoh, the allegation surfaced during enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s pregnancy.
He said the police immediately referred the matter to the command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit for a discreet and comprehensive investigation. The suspect remains in custody and will face prosecution once investigators conclude their work.
The spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children and ensuring that offenders face the full force of the law.
Jimoh noted that the arrest aligns with the reform-driven vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which prioritises gender-sensitive policing, accountability and stronger responses to sexual and gender-based violence nationwide.
He said the Ondo State Police Command remains focused on turning this vision into concrete actions that enhance public trust and community safety.
Jimoh also praised members of the public for promptly reporting the incident and urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support swift police intervention.
