Academic activities at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State have been suspended after lecturers, under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), commenced an indefinite strike over the non-payment of two months’ salaries.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Chairman of the ASUU-AAUA chapter, Bolu Oshodi, who said the industrial action followed the Ondo State Government’s failure to pay lecturers’ May and June 2026 salaries.
According to the union, its congress reaffirmed earlier resolutions reached in April and June to withdraw services until the outstanding salaries are paid.
ASUU said the strike, which began at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, is total, comprehensive and will remain in effect until the salary arrears are cleared.

The statement read, “The ASUU-AAUA Congress of July 10, 2026, reaffirmed its earlier resolution of Tuesday, April 28, and Thursday, June 18, 2026, respectively, to embark on withdrawal of services to demand for the payment of May and June 2026 salaries.
“The withdrawal of services is total, comprehensive and indefinite until all outstanding salaries are paid. The withdrawal of services commences at 11:59 pm today, Friday, July 10, 2026.”
The union also disclosed that a National Visitation Team from ASUU is expected to visit the institution on Monday, July 13, to address issues relating to the 2025 agreement between the union and the Nigerian Government.
The strike comes as concerns over staff welfare in state-owned tertiary institutions heighten, with the union maintaining that it will not suspend the industrial action until the outstanding salaries are paid.
