One person has been confirmed dead, while 26 survivors have been rescued from the collapsed two-storey building at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State.
The update was provided on Monday by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, in a fresh situation report issued to journalists.
Adeseye stated, “Update: One recovered dead as survivors rescued alive move to 26.”
Earlier reports indicated that several persons were trapped when the structure collapsed in the early hours of Monday.
According to Adeseye, officials from the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station were dispatched to the scene immediately after a distress call was received around 12:20 a.m.

“It is an ongoing rescue involving an existing two-storey building which had reportedly been marked in distress before collapsing on the occupants,” the statement read.
The agency confirmed that the building had shown visible signs of structural weakness before it gave way while residents were still inside.
As of Monday morning, 15 persons, including seven men, four women, and four children, were rescued with varying degrees of injuries and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, and the General Hospital, Odan, on Lagos Island for treatment.
Rescue operations are still ongoing at the site as emergency responders continue to search through the debris for possible trapped victims.
The Lagos State government has yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the collapse, but preliminary reports suggest the structure had long been identified as unsafe.
