The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State on Saturday held its state congress in Osogbo, where new state executives were elected.

Security operatives, including police officers and Department of State Services personnel, were deployed in large numbers at the venue as delegates from the 30 local government areas participated in the exercise.

The congress was supervised by the chairman of the Osun ADC Congress Committee, Mudashiru Akinlabi.

At the end of the event, former Ilesa West Local Government chairman Issa Adesiji was selected as state chairman through a consensus arrangement, while former Commissioner for Information during the second term of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, Lani Baderinwa, was also selected as state secretary.

Other officials elected include Adepeju Adigun as treasurer, Funmilade Oyebode as women leader, Ademola Owoade as youth leader, and Oluwaseun Abosede as publicity secretary, among others.

In his acceptance remarks, Adesiji urged the new executive to immediately prepare for the party’s participation in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, stressing the need for unity and hard work.

He said the new leadership was taking on a demanding responsibility with the governorship election approaching and called on all members of the executive to remain committed and focused on victory.

He also appealed to party members and stakeholders for support, saying collective effort would be key to success at the polls.

He added that the goal of the party was to win the election and urged members and supporters to work together in pursuit of that objective.

“I quickly want to call on all members of this brand new Osun Exco to tighten up their belts for the big task ahead of us. As we all know, we are taking the party from almost a point of inertia, coupled with having a ‘must win’ governorship election in four months’ time, specifically on August 15, 2026.

“Thus, it is a yeoman’s task that we are taking responsibility for, and I am telling all Exco members to be ready to work in pursuit of our one-point agenda, which is to win the election handsomely.

“May I also seize this opportunity to appeal to our leaders and members generally to come to our support in this pursuit for the good of Osun and its people.

“I specially call on all people of good conscience to join me and my team in working to win the election, as teamwork makes success easier,” Adesiji said.

Adesiji further described the party’s governorship candidate, Najeem Salaam, as experienced and capable, citing his previous service as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.

Also speaking, Salaam said the party was prepared to deliver inclusive governance if elected, noting that his choice of a female running mate was deliberate and aimed at ensuring broader representation.
