The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, the global music star Davido, according to a statement from the governor’s office.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, had previously announced that he and his wife, Chioma, would have their white wedding in Miami, Florida, in August 2025.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the trip on Tuesday.
The announcement was a direct response to concerns raised by the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), which had criticised the governor for leaving the state without officially transmitting power to his deputy.
Rasheed noted that Governor Adeleke has not taken any official vacation since taking office in November 2022 and that this current trip would be short.
He added that Adeleke is in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is currently overseeing government activities.
The spokesperson also extended an invitation for the opposition party to attend the wedding, either in person or virtually.
In an earlier statement, the Osun APC had described the governor’s absence as “abnormal” and questioned who was in charge of the state during his time away.
