The Oyo State Police Command has said efforts are ongoing to secure the safe return of a woman abducted in front of her residence in the Bolumole area of Challenge, Ibadan.

In a statement issued on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that the incident occurred at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday when armed, masked men seized the victim, identified as Adetutu Aderibigbe, at the entrance of her home and took her to an unknown location.

“The command is aware of a report currently circulating in the media regarding the alleged kidnapping of one Mrs. Adetutu Aderibigbe. Preliminary investigation reveals that the incident occurred on 8th April 2026 at about 1800hrs at Bolumole Area, off Ring Road, Ibadan,” Ayanlade said.

He clarified that, contrary to earlier reports, the victim was not abducted on the road, but had been trailed to her residence.

“Upon her arrival and while attempting to enter her premises, she was accosted at the gate by four armed men wearing masks and subsequently forcefully taken away in an unregistered black Lexus vehicle,” he stated.

A family member present at the scene was not harmed.

The police said that following the report, officers swiftly mobilised, with the case escalated to relevant tactical units. Detectives were deployed immediately for on-the-spot assessment.

The command added that the crime scene has been forensically examined, with critical evidence recovered to support ongoing investigations.

It further stated that surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified to track down the suspects and ensure the victim’s safe rescue.

The police assured the public that all necessary resources are being deployed to secure her release and apprehend those responsible.

Residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could assist the investigation.
