The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised the state government for failing to respond officially to the explosion in Offa, leaving residents anxious and seeking clarity.
The party’s statement follows reports that explosions struck parts of Offa on Christmas night, damaging property and prompting security agencies to cordon off affected areas for investigation.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Saturday, December 27, and signed by PDP State Publicity Secretary Olusegun Adewara, the opposition party said the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration had not addressed the public or reassured residents since the incident.

The PDP expressed sympathy with the people of Offa, including the Olofa, Mufutau Gbadamosi Esuwoye I, as well as affected residents, business owners and local communities.
“It is unfortunate that while residents ran in fear and confusion, the state governor and his government were absent both physically and in communication,” the statement read.
The party said there had been no official explanation, no security briefing, no government presence at the scene, and no reassurance for residents of Offa or other parts of the state.
“This vacuum of leadership has fuelled panic, rumours and anxiety among innocent citizens,” the PDP stated.
The party stressed that a responsible government would have promptly visited the affected area, assessed the situation, and provided clear information to the public.
“Sadly, citizens in Kwara are left to rely on social media speculation because their government has failed in its basic duty of leadership during a crisis,” the statement said.
The PDP described the situation as “irresponsible, insensitive, and reckless governance,” especially during a festive period when people expect peace and safety.
It urged the governor to return from Abuja, visit Offa, support affected residents, provide an accurate briefing, and convene a joint security clarification to quell public panic.
The party emphasised that the people of Offa deserve truth, protection, and leadership, not silence, at this critical time.
