The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the 2027 general elections are credible, transparent, and devoid of irregularities.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the credibility of elections and the readiness of institutions to uphold the people’s will are crucial to the survival of Nigeria’s democracy. He stressed the need for a stronger legal framework that would make the electronic transmission of results from polling units mandatory.

On the PDP’s internal preparations, Ologunagba assured Nigerians that the party is fully committed to delivering a successful national convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from 15 to 16 November 2025. He said the choice of Ibadan was intentional, given its historic role in democratic struggles and its unifying atmosphere for party members.

He revealed that the National Convention Organising Committee has already set up 11 subcommittees to handle critical areas such as logistics, accommodation, transportation, venue arrangements, security, media, publicity, accreditation, and welfare. This, he explained, reflects the PDP’s tradition of meticulous planning and inclusive participation.

Ologunagba added that the zoning of national party offices, as approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC), is being strictly followed, while the sale of nomination forms for various positions has commenced at the party’s national secretariat. Aspirants are required to submit their completed forms within the stipulated period, ahead of screening and clearance.

He reassured party members and supporters that the PDP remains committed to internal democracy, inclusiveness, and transparency. He described the upcoming convention as a defining moment for the party, which is determined to reclaim power in 2027.

According to him, “Nigerians expect INEC to deploy technology fully and ensure that results declared at the polling units are the same results transmitted to the collation centres. Anything short of that will not be acceptable.”

Ologunagba also urged Nigerians to continue to trust the PDP, noting that the party is undergoing internal reforms and reconciliation to strengthen its structures across the six geopolitical zones.

With just two months to go, preparations for the convention are reportedly in top gear, as party leaders, governors, legislators, and stakeholders rally support for what the PDP describes as a “family reunion” that will set the tone for its 2027 campaign.
