Peter Mandelson Arrested Over Epstein Links

British police have arrested Peter Mandelson, a former U.K. ambassador to the United States, as part of an investigation into alleged misconduct linked to his ties with Jeffrey Epstein.

The Metropolitan Police in London said on Monday that officers detained a 72-year-old man in north London on suspicion of misconduct in public office. 

While the force did not name Mandelson, following standard British practice, the individual under investigation has been publicly identified as him.

Authorities are probing documents suggesting that Mandelson may have shared sensitive government information with Epstein around 15 years ago. Police stressed that the investigation does not involve any allegations of sexual misconduct.

Mandelson’s arrest follows closely on the heels of former Prince Andrew, who was detained last Thursday over similar accusations related to his association with Epstein.

Mandelson had been dismissed from his diplomatic role in September after emails surfaced showing he maintained contact with Epstein following the financier’s 2008 conviction for sex offenses involving a minor. 

The release of additional documents by the U.S. Justice Department last month prompted British authorities to launch a formal criminal investigation.
