Former Labour Party Presidential Candidate and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has condemned the attack on the party’s office in Bakassi, Cross River State.
In a statement shared on Sunday night, Obi described the incident as an attack on democracy.

“What occurred at the ADC office in Bakassi, Cross River State, is not merely an attack on a political party; it is an attack on democracy itself. When thugs can storm a party office and destroy property without facing arrest, it reflects how dangerously low our democratic standards have fallen,” the statement read in part.
Obi also warned that if this trend continues, violence may mar the future of Nigeria’s democracy.
“In Nigeria today, what can we expect when leadership standards have plummeted to the point that qualification, certification, and credibility are no longer deemed necessary for public office? The ability for individuals to present forged certificates for election sends a troubling message to our society. If we continue down this path, violence may become the future of our democracy,” Obi added.
“We must recognise that fraud and violence cannot create true leadership; they will only result in chaos. This chaos will ultimately affect us and our children.”
There have been several reported attacks on the African Democratic Congress (ADC), targeting its offices, leaders, and members, especially during political events or party activities.
Prior to the attack on the party’s office in Bakassi, gunmen attacked members of the party in Ubima, Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State. The gunmen also attacked the convoy of Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, who had just joined ADC. The party’s officials described the incident as an attempt to intimidate the opposition.
