Peter Obi, a politician and former governor of Anambra State, has volunteered to meet the requirements of bail to free human rights attorney Dele Farotimi.

In a slander lawsuit involving Afe Babalola, an Ekiti Magistrate Court granted Farotimi bail.

A 30 million Naira bond, two sureties (one of whom must be a homeowner), giving up his passport, and refusing to give media interviews are all requirements of the bail terms.

But in a statement released on Friday on his X account, Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, clarified that as a supporter of the rule of law, Obi wanted the matter settled in a way that honours the judicial system and is advantageous to all parties.

Tanko stated, “As the head of the Obedient Movement, I conferred with His Excellency, Peter Obi. He offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions as a respecter of the rule of law, due process, and order.

“He is concerned that the matter be settled in a way that benefits our justice system and all parties. His heartfelt gratitude was shown to everyone involved.”
