The U.S. Senate has confirmed Jeanine Pirro, a former television host and judge, as the new U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.

The confirmation, which passed with a 50-45 vote, makes Pirro the latest Fox News personality to be appointed to a high-profile position in the Trump administration.

Pirro, who previously hosted “Justice with Judge Jeanine” on Fox News for over a decade, was initially appointed to the role in an interim capacity by President Donald Trump in May.

Trump has a history of filling powerful government posts with hosts from the right-wing network and other loyalists.

The appointment has drawn strong criticism from Democrats. Senator Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, called the selection a “rubber stamp for Donald Trump” and stated that Pirro “should never be a permanent U.S. Attorney.”

He cited her history of promoting conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, which led to her being named in a defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News. The network eventually settled the case for nearly $800 million.

Pirro, 74, has been a vocal supporter of Trump, even writing a book in 2018 titled “Liars, Leakers, and Liberals: The Case Against the Anti-Trump Conspiracy.” Her ex-husband, Albert Pirro, was also pardoned by Trump during his first presidential term after being convicted of tax evasion.

Pirro joins a growing list of former cable news figures in the Trump administration, including Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. In a separate vote last week, Trump’s former lawyer, Emil Bove, was also confirmed as a federal appellate judge.
