Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, the governor said he had taken the decision to pursue a different political platform that would allow him to better serve the people of Plateau State.

The letter, obtained on Thursday in Jos, expressed his gratitude to the PDP for providing him with the opportunity to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process.

Mutfwang explained that his decision stemmed from his commitment to effective leadership, clear direction and improved service delivery.

In the personally signed letter, he wrote, “I hereby formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect.

“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for offering me the political platform to engage in the democratic process.

“I value the support of party leaders, members and supporters at all levels throughout my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the confidence reposed in me.

“Considering the realities of the moment, and guided by my commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction and service delivery, I find it necessary to seek an alternative political platform.

“Please accept the assurances of my highest regards.”

The letter did not indicate the party he had joined. However, the resignation follows months of speculation, with reports suggesting that Mutfwang has moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC National Working Committee has welcomed him, while party officials have pledged their support for his new political journey.
