The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects over alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling, and unlawful possession of firearms across the state.
Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina announced the arrests during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Jos on Thursday.
He also confirmed the rescue of a kidnap victim and the recovery of several locally manufactured firearms.
“In our ongoing efforts to rid Plateau State of criminal activities, we have apprehended members of kidnap syndicates, rescued victims, and seized weapons during a series of operations,” Adesina said.
According to him, a 20-year-old suspect, Auwal Mohammed, was arrested in Jos North with items belonging to kidnap victims.
Three other members of a kidnapping gang were captured in Bassa Local Government Area, while four suspects were detained in Jos after police intercepted a vehicle carrying a victim identified as Ebuka. Officers also recovered a locally made pistol from the gang.
Adesina added that robbery and cattle rustling suspects were apprehended in Qua’an Pan and Shendam LGAs after police tracked them to Nasarawa State.
In separate incidents, individuals were arrested for the unlawful possession of locally fabricated firearms and live ammunition.
Reassuring residents of their safety, the commissioner noted that police operations would be intensified, especially as the period often witnesses a rise in crime.
“I have directed all divisional police officers and tactical units to strengthen surveillance and ensure the protection of lives and property,” he said.
