Police Arrest Fake Soldier, Five Over Jos Unrest

The Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State has confirmed the arrest of a suspected fake soldier and five other individuals linked to unrest in parts of Jos on Wednesday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, disclosed this during a telephone interview, stating that the suspect, dressed in an army singlet with an extra shirt, was apprehended at Angwan Rukuba, the same community where 28 people were killed and 22 others injured during the Palm Sunday night attack.

According to him, the individual was arrested while moving suspiciously in the area on Wednesday afternoon and was found to be in possession of a counterfeit Nigerian Military School (NMS) identity card.

Alabo further revealed that five other persons were arrested in connection with disturbances across the Jos metropolis earlier in the day, describing them as miscreants who took advantage of the situation to commit criminal acts.

“They are essentially thieves who took advantage of the tension to snatch bags and money from unsuspecting members of the public, particularly around the Terminus area,” he said.

The police spokesperson noted that security personnel were promptly deployed as the unrest began, successfully dispersing the hoodlums and restoring calm.

He added that security has since been strengthened around key locations, including areas around the university and other strategic points, to safeguard lives and property.

Alabo urged residents to remain calm yet vigilant, encouraging the public to report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies without delay.

Authorities stated that efforts are ongoing to sustain peace and prevent any further breakdown of law and order in the state.
