Police Arrest Man for N1.5 million Bribery Attempt

Officials from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have detained a 40-year-old individual, Yahaya Saleh, for attempting to bribe police investigators with N1.5 million in efforts to secure the illegal release of a suspected kidnapper currently under investigation.

The arrest came after a covert operation conducted by the command’s elite Scorpion Squad, which has been leading an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping syndicate active in the FCT and surrounding areas.

According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Wednesday, Saleh approached the investigators with the bribe in an attempt to compromise the integrity of the investigation and help facilitate the release of one of the suspects in custody.

“Demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, the officers promptly declined the offer and initiated necessary legal procedures, leading to Saleh’s immediate arrest.” Adeh said.

While an investigation is ongoing to arrest other actors in the syndicate, Commissioner of Police CP Ajao S. Adewale commended the officers for their exemplary conduct and assured the public that the command remains resolute in its stance against corruption and interference with justice.
