Police Arrest #OccupyLekkiTollGate Protesters in Lagos, Nigeria

Officers of the Lagos Police Command have arrested peaceful protesters at the Lekki Tollgate as they embarked on an #OccupyLekkiTollgate standoff.

Eyewitnesses report that some of the arrested people were passersby and observers at the protest ground.

The protesters had gathered early on Saturday morning to stop the state government and the Lekki Concession Company from reopening the tollgate, which was the venue of shootings on the 20th October, 2020.

The Lagos Police Command had disclosed it will hold a “show of force” exercise on Saturday in Lekki, Obalende and some other parts of the state.

Nigerians have expressed their displeasure with the treatment of the protesters who were seen held and mounted into Black Marias despite not being armed.

Popular Nigerian online comedian, Mr. Macaroni was one of the protesters arrested by the Police.
