The Treasurer of the OVAT Community Development Association (CDA) in Somolu Local Government, Lagos, Nasir Agbalaya was reportedly assaulted by a team of five police officers on Saturday, July 12. The incident, which occurred on Onafowokan Street, involved officers bearing “crack team” insignia.
Sources indicate that the assault took place after Agbalaya, who is also a business reporter at News Central TV, questioned the officers’ alleged inappropriate interaction with underage girls.
According to witnesses, two officers were initially seen speaking with the girls on Onafowokan Street, and subsequently, three additional officers called the same girls into the newly completed Police Post on the street.
Agbalaya reportedly intervened, advising the girls to return to their homes. Following this, all five officers allegedly converged on him and Engr. Seyi Oke, the OVAT CDA Chairman, subjecting them to verbal and physical assault. Agbalaya sustained bodily harm, including an injury to his head, during the altercation.
