Police Investigate Western Cape Teacher Over Alleged Sexual Harassment of Pupil

Police have launched an investigation into a female teacher at Harvester Primary School in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, following allegations of sexual harassment involving a Grade 7 pupil.

The teacher is accused of sending inappropriate messages, including explicit images and videos of herself, to the learner.

Reports indicate that the teacher and the pupil initially connected on the social media platform TikTok, before moving their conversations to WhatsApp.

The Western Cape Education Department has also initiated an internal investigation into the matter and confirmed that the learner is receiving counselling.

“No arrests have been made as yet, and the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation. Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” said Police spokesperson FC van Wyk.

Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says that it has been made aware of the very serious and disturbing allegations at the Mitchells Plain school.

According to the department’s spokesperson, Bronnagh Hammond, an immediate investigation has been launched by the department’s Labour Relations Directorate. Hammond explained that the outcome of the investigation will determine how the department will proceed in terms of Disciplinary action.
