The Enugu State Police Command has recovered a cut-to-size, single-barrelled gun from a male suspect who fled during a public gathering in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, December 27, in Enugu, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said police operatives from the Igbo-Eze South Police Division recovered the firearm on December 26.
He explained that officers on routine security patrol around the Jimoh Rauf Badamosi (JRB) Mini Stadium in Ibagwa-Aka, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, noticed a man suspiciously carrying a black polythene bag.

According to him, the suspect dropped the bag and ran away immediately after spotting the operatives, evading arrest.
Police officers retrieved and searched the abandoned bag, where they discovered the concealed firearm.
Ndukwe said officers have intensified efforts to identify, arrest and determine the criminal intent of the fleeing suspect.
He hinted that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Mamman Giwa, has advised residents to remain law-abiding and security-conscious while urging them to report suspicious persons or activities promptly to the nearest police station.
The spokesperson also recalled a recent incident in which the command foiled an armed robbery attempt and arrested a 28-year-old suspect, Chimuanya Oshim, near the Agric Bank Bus Stop in Independence Layout, Enugu.
He said officers caught the suspect in the act of robbing a young man and recovered an imitation revolver loaded with eight toy bullets.
