The operatives of the Borno State Police Command have discovered a concealed stockpile of 912 rounds of ammunition in the Kumshe Jamba Mari area of Maiduguri.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the ammunition, B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm), has been secured while investigations continue to determine its source and intended use.
Daso said the discovery was made on January 4, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., when the Divisional Police Officer of Lamisula Division, acting on credible intelligence, led a team of operatives to the area where the hidden cache was found.

He explained that standard safety procedures were immediately activated, with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit deployed to the scene. The area was cordoned off, and the ammunition was safely recovered without incident.
“The area was professionally cordoned off, and a total of 912 rounds of B32 API type (7.62 x 51mm) ammunition were safely recovered
“The recovered exhibits have been secured, while investigations are ongoing to trace the source and intended use of the ammunition, as well as to apprehend those responsible,” he stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, was said to have commended members of the public for providing timely and valuable information, while reiterating the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing across the state.
He also urged residents to continue reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
The development comes a day after troops of Operation Hadin Kai reportedly recovered 1,270 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, including live rounds and power banks, concealed in a drainage at Bulumkutu, also in Maiduguri.
