The Kebbi State Police Command has rescued six kidnap victims unhurt in Donko after a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, November 3, noting that the operation formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to curb banditry and violent crime across the state.
Abubakar explained that the incident took place on Saturday, November 1, when about a dozen armed bandits attacked Ukuhu, Tungar Wazga, and Unguwar Chiroma villages, abducting 10 residents.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Danko led a joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes in pursuit of the abductors. They intercepted the criminals at Marina village, near the Zamfara border, and engaged them in a heavy exchange of gunfire,” the statement said.
The shootout reportedly forced the bandits to abandon six of their hostages and flee into the forest with gunshot injuries.
The rescued victims—Abubakar B. Abubakar (25), Nasiru Magawata (18), Abdul Magawata (15), Buhari Ukuhu (17), Kamalu Magawata (12), and Naziru Magawata (11)—were safely reunited with their families after receiving medical attention.
Police said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining four victims and track down the fleeing suspects.
Commending the team, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani praised the DPO and his officers for their swift and brave intervention.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security operations.
