The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) claim that four bandits were arrested at Akure Airport on Sunday.
Recall that FAAN had earlier stated that four suspected bandits were sighted near the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewo community.
“During the operation, some individuals were seen attempting to flee the area. Four suspects were eventually apprehended by the joint security team and have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force Area Command for further interrogation,” FAAN said.

But in a statement on Monday, the law enforcement spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said no such incident occurred at the Akure Airport, noting that no security breach occurred.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Command wishes to state clearly that no such incident occurred at the Akure Airport, and there was no security breach of any kind at the facility,” Jimoh said.

Jimoh noted that the command received intelligence about suspected kidnappers operating in the Eleyewo area, leading to a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
He claims that initial investigations have shown that the suspects are kidnapping logistics providers supporting kidnapping operations in the state.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects are Kidnap Logistics Suppliers aiding kidnap activities within the state.
“They have since made useful confessional statements that are currently aiding ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network,” he said.
Jimoh added that the suspects have made useful confessional statements that are currently aiding ongoing investigations and efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network.
He urged the public to disregard inaccurate reports suggesting that bandits were arrested at the Akure Airport, as such claims are false, misleading, and likely to cause unnecessary panic.
