Pope Francis is making progress in his recovery from double pneumonia, with doctors no longer considering his condition critical.

The Vatican shared this update, saying the 88-year-old Pontiff is responding well to treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he has been receiving care for over three weeks.

Medical experts treating him have noted steady improvement, allowing them to lift the cautious outlook that had previously raised concerns about his health.

“The improvements recorded in previous days have further consolidated, as confirmed by both blood tests and clinical assessments, as well as a good response to his drug treatments,” the Vatican announced.

Although this is a step in the right direction, Pope Francis will remain in hospital for further monitoring.

Doctors say he still requires ongoing medication and therapy, though they have not specified when he will be discharged.
