Pope Leo XIV arrived in Monaco on Saturday for a brief visit, marking the first stop of his papacy in western Europe.
He was welcomed at the heliport by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene.
The U.S.-born pope, a former missionary known for critiquing the wealthy, began his visit at the Prince’s Palace.
He is scheduled to greet the public from the balcony, visit the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and stop at the square in front of the Church of Saint Devota, Monaco’s patron saint church.

The visit will culminate in an open-air mass at Louis II Stadium, expected to draw around 15,000 attendees.
Monaco is one of the few European states with Catholicism as the official religion.
While only about eight percent of residents identify as practicing Catholics, the church remains a space where people from diverse social backgrounds gather.
