Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is under mounting pressure after his side suffered a dismal 3-1 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, marking their third loss in just six Premier League games this season.
United’s defence was exposed as Igor Thiago scored twice for Brentford in the first half.
Although new signing Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal for United before the break, captain Bruno Fernandes had a crucial penalty saved in the second half by Caoimhin Kelleher.
Mathias Jensen sealed the win for Brentford in stoppage time, leading home fans to chant “you’re getting sacked in the morning” at Amorim.
Amorim, who has failed to record successive league wins since taking charge, stated that he will not try to protect himself or his players, insisting his focus is only on winning the next game to create momentum.
The manager conceded that his side failed to control the game or settle down, adding, “We need to work on a lot of things.”
Amorim was previously backed by United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, but this latest defeat, despite over £250 million spent on new players, has intensified speculation about the manager’s future.
