The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of Reverend Father Philip Ekeli, who was kidnapped along with Seminarian Peter Andrew on March 3 in Edo State.
However, the police revealed that the seminarian did not survive the ordeal.
CSP Moses Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer in Edo, made the announcement on Friday in Benin City. He stated that security forces and local vigilantes secured Ekeli’s release on March 13 at about 4:52 p.m. in Amughe community.
Unfortunately, efforts to save Andrew were unsuccessful.
The two were abducted from St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Iviukha, Etsako East Local Government Area.

Yamu disclosed that one of the suspected kidnappers was killed, while four others were arrested on the day of the abduction.
“Security forces are continuing operations to track down the fleeing kidnappers,” he said.
In response to growing security concerns, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has vowed to rid the state of criminal elements.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, he assured residents that his administration would do everything possible to protect lives and property.
Aiyedatiwa warned that criminals would not be allowed to take refuge in Ondo State, adding that security forces would be deployed to flush them out. He also urged traditional rulers and community leaders to be vigilant and collaborate with security agencies to combat crime.
“Whenever you notice any suspicious movement, alert the security agents immediately. If you see something, say something. Security is a collective responsibility for everyone,” the governor said.
