The prosecution in the terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to impose the maximum sentence—the death penalty.
Prosecuting counsel Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN) told the court that more than 75 security personnel had been killed as a result of the terrorist activities carried out by Kanu, his groups and followers, adding that many innocent Nigerians also lost their lives and public property was destroyed.

Awomolo argued that subjecting Kanu to the maximum punishment would “serve justice to all the victims of his acts of terrorism.”
Justice James Omotosho has stood down the proceedings until a few minutes before 4 p.m., when he is expected to deliver the sentence.
