The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed the promotion of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Mohammed to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
Mohammed takes over from DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 17, by the Commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC also approved the elevation of Commissioner of Police Abibo Deinma Reuben to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Furthermore, 11 deputy commissioners of police were promoted to substantive commissioner. Those promoted include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu, Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
The statement also revealed that thirteen assistant commissioners were promoted to deputy commissioners, while forty-four chief superintendents advanced to the rank of assistant commissioners.
In addition, 412 superintendents were elevated to chief superintendents, with several deputy superintendents confirmed as substantive superintendents.
PSC Chairman, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and encouraged them to recommit themselves to national service.
He emphasised that promotion within the police carries higher responsibilities and expectations, assuring that the Commission would continue to recognise and reward diligence and professionalism in the Force.
