Paris Saint-Germain’s women’s team have launched an ambitious move to sign Barcelona star Alexia Putellas, with talks underway between the French club and the two-time Ballon d’Or winner, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on Wednesday.
The discussions have been ongoing “for several days” but remain “fairly limited” at this stage, the source said, confirming reports circulating in several Spanish media outlets. While PSG are keen to complete the signing before the transfer window closes on Friday night, it is “not certain” the deal will go through, as Putellas remains under contract with Barcelona until 2026, with an option for an additional year.

PSG are seeking marquee reinforcements after losing striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto and midfielder Grace Geyoro earlier this summer, having already brought in Real Madrid captain and defender Olga Carmona. Should the club succeed in signing the 31-year-old midfielder, it would represent the biggest transfer of the summer window in women’s football.
Spanish media reports have suggested that Putellas, who won the World Cup in 2023 and finished as a European Championship runner-up this summer, has already rejected a four-year contract offer from PSG that included a higher salary than her current Barcelona deal. However, AFP’s source stressed that “discussions are not closed” and remain ongoing.
Putellas’ representatives have not commented publicly on the matter, while Barcelona’s financial troubles — compounded by the costly renovation of the Camp Nou — are affecting all sections of the club, including their women’s team. This has led to several players, including Jana Fernandez, Fridolina Rolfo and Ingrid Engen, departing during the current transfer window.
