PSG Thrash Lille 4-1, Lay Down Marker Ahead of Liverpool Clash

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) delivered a dominant performance on Saturday, thrashing Lille 4-1 at the Parc des Princes to further tighten their grip on Ligue 1. The emphatic victory came just days before their crucial Champions League last-16 clash against Liverpool, extending their unbeaten domestic run to 24 matches.

Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Désiré Doué all found the net in a scintillating first half, effectively killing the contest early. Although Lille substitute Jonathan David pulled one back late on, the result was never in doubt.

Luis Enrique fielded a strong lineup featuring several likely starters for Wednesday’s showdown with Liverpool. The team wasted no time asserting control, with Barcola tapping in the rebound from Dembélé’s shot in just the sixth minute. Marquinhos doubled the lead with a precise header from Doué’s cross, before Dembélé himself lashed home PSG’s third on 28 minutes—his 18th goal of the league season.

Doué capped the first-half rout with a stunning strike, making it the fourth time in five home games PSG have scored four goals. The victory marked their 15th win in 16 matches since the turn of the year, reinforcing their status as Ligue 1’s dominant force.

Elsewhere, Lille, who face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, found little joy against the relentless hosts. David’s late goal—his 12th of the season but only his second since early December—was scant consolation for a side that was outclassed from start to finish.

“I’m not going to cry, but the scheduling is scandalous and questions need to be asked,” Lille coach Bruno Génésio complained, expressing frustration at having to play so close to their European fixture.

While Lille prepare for their trip to Dortmund, PSG shift their focus to Liverpool, knowing that their toughest challenge of the season is just around the corner.
