Psychologist Urges Intentionality in 2026

A clinical and relational psychologist, Dr Yolanda N. George-David, has called on Nigerians to adopt intentional personal change in 2026, urging them to prioritise impact, boundaries and self-worth over the need for social approval.

Speaking on Sharing Life Issues Weekend Special on Inspiration FM, Aunt Landa framed her message around a symbolic contrast between “salt” and “sugar,” warning that many people live for attention rather than transformation.

“The goal of life is not to be liked. The goal is to change the atmosphere, the way salt does,” she said, adding, “When you spend your life trying to be liked, you are choosing to be sweet like sugar… sugar gets attention… but people just take, and they take, and they take.”

She explained that while sugar attracts crowds, it adds little value, whereas salt operates quietly but meaningfully.
“Salt is quiet… it does not shout for attention, yet its power is very deep,” she noted.

Drawing on science to reinforce her point, she said:

“Salt doesn’t add anything new. Salt just reveals what was already there. It reduces bitterness, brings out sweetness, and strengthens depth and meaning… Salt reveals truth.”

The psychologist stressed that the “reset” she advocates is both personal and deliberate, shaped by her own recent health struggles.

“I cannot continue sacrificing to come on air, and your life isn’t changing. Your life has to change… I cannot teach you to reset, and I do not reset my own life,” she said.

According to her, the process requires restructuring one’s priorities and making difficult but necessary decisions.

“I have structured and restructured everything about me… There is now a method to the madness… people are going to be fine; they will catch up,” she stated.

Aunt Landa also warned against people-pleasing and toxic relationships, urging listeners to establish firm boundaries.

“You wasted years fighting unnecessary fights… putting yourself in places your mental health has no business being… you let people take and take and take, and you demanded nothing,” she said.

She emphasised that asserting oneself may not be welcomed by others but remains essential.

“You have to demand boundaries… it doesn’t need to be something anybody likes, but you demand it.”

Highlighting the dangers of neglecting personal growth while helping others, she recounted a story of a young man who died without savings or a sense of identity.

“He did not even have a chance to live his own life… make sure you are also achieving those things yourself,” she urged.
Reinforcing her central message, she declared:

“The people that matter will not mind… and the people that mind do not matter.”

She encouraged listeners to take practical steps toward change, including financial discipline and intentional living.

“My goal is to have 100 people who have one-million-naira savings by the end of this year… just because they became intentional with their lives,” she said.

The session forms part of her broader “Reset with Aunt Landa” initiative, which focuses on self-awareness, emotional well-being, and structured personal development. With a speciality in neurosurgery, Aunt Landa is also a radio host (OAP) and humanitarian and was named a Vlisco ambassador in 2018.
