Authorities in Qatar have begun evacuating residents living close to the United States Embassy in Doha as a precaution after Iranian strikes hit the Gulf country in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks.
In a statement on Thursday, the interior ministry said residents near the US embassy were being temporarily relocated while security measures remained in place.
It added that alternative accommodation had also been arranged for those affected as part of preventive steps.
“The relevant authorities are evacuating residents living in the vicinity of the US Embassy as a temporary precautionary measure.

“Suitable accommodation has been provided for them as part of necessary preventive measures,” it added.
AFP journalists reported hearing explosions across the city on Tuesday as Iran launched strikes at targets across the Gulf.
Qatar’s defence ministry later stated that an Iranian ballistic missile struck a US military installation at Al Udeid Air Base, located about 40 kilometres southwest of Doha.
Officials also said that authorities had successfully prevented attempted attacks targeting Hamad International Airport.
The ministry had earlier urged citizens to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement while the security situation is monitored.Â
