The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has named Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars.

The 73-year-old Portuguese manager takes over just 72 days before the World Cup begins, following the departure of Otto Addo.

Addo was dismissed in March after the team suffered back-to-back friendly defeats against Austria and Germany.

Queiroz brings a wealth of tournament experience to the role, as this appointment will mark his fifth consecutive World Cup appearance.

He previously led Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010 and managed Iran through the last three editions of the competition.

His extensive career also includes stints with various national teams, including Egypt and Colombia, and a prior role with South Africa.

Born in Mozambique, the veteran coach recently ended his tenure with Oman after they failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament.

He now faces a swift turnaround to prepare the Ghanaian squad for their upcoming campaign.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group L, where they are scheduled to compete against England, Croatia, and Panama.
