Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc, Destroys 240 Houses in Kebbi

A powerful rainstorm on Tuesday wreaked havoc in Garin Kestu, a community in Atuwo Ward of Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi State, leaving at least 240 houses destroyed.

Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, explained that the heavy downpour, which was accompanied by violent winds, caused extensive damage to residential buildings and properties valued at millions of naira.

“We thank God no lives were lost,” he said.

Governor Nasir Idris extended his heartfelt sympathy to the residents affected by the storm, assuring them of prompt government assistance.

Speaking through the Chairman of Shanga Local Government, Alhaji Audu Dan Audu, the governor ordered an immediate assessment of the damage. He also pledged to provide relief materials to support the victims in the aftermath of the disaster.

“The governor instructed me to visit and assess the extent of the destruction. The state government will respond rapidly with building materials, food items, and other relief supplies to cushion the impact,” Audu stated during the visit.
