Barcelona forward Raphinha’s return from injury has proven pivotal in the club’s revival, with the Brazilian winger playing a key role in lifting the Catalans back to the top of La Liga.

His influence has been immediate and decisive, helping the team regain momentum after a difficult spell and restoring belief as the title race intensifies.

The 28-year-old looks set to start again when Barcelona travel to face Real Betis on Saturday, a demanding fixture that could see Hansi Flick’s side move four points clear of Real Madrid, at least for a short time.

Raphinha found the net against Atletico Madrid in midweek as Barcelona claimed a vital victory over another title contender, and he also provided two assists against Alaves last weekend in his first start since suffering a hamstring injury in September.

Last season, Raphinha was instrumental as Barcelona surged to a domestic double, registering an impressive 34 goals and 26 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions.

Despite those numbers, he finished only fifth in the Ballon d’Or rankings, a result that clearly frustrated him, judging by several social media posts in which he highlighted his contributions and achievements.

Even opposition figures have acknowledged his impact.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone spoke warmly of the Brazilian after Tuesday’s defeat, praising his relentless work rate and versatility and questioning how such a player had failed to lift football’s most prestigious individual trophy.

Flick has also been quick to underline Raphinha’s importance, noting that the team’s intensity increases whenever he is on the pitch.

The Barcelona coach said his energy lifts the entire side, adding that the winger’s performance against Atletico had been outstanding and crucial to their success.

Raphinha has established himself as one of Barcelona’s on-field leaders, constantly pressing opponents and urging teammates to raise their standards.

His work without the ball is particularly valuable in Flick’s system, which relies on a high defensive line and demands players close down rapidly to prevent being exposed.

The forward has openly admitted that his approach can irritate those around him.

He recently said he often feels he pushes his teammates too hard and talks too much during matches, but insists it comes from a desire to get the best out of those he believes are capable of more.

He added that once matches are won, any tensions disappear in the dressing room.

Even Flick has at times been on the receiving end of Raphinha’s encouragement.

After the win over Alaves, the German coach was seen sitting alone on the bench looking unexpectedly downcast before Raphinha stepped in to lift his spirits.

The uplifting victory over Atletico helped further, and another positive result in Seville would only strengthen the sense that Barcelona are rediscovering their strongest form.

Real Madrid, who sit one point behind Barcelona, will be watching closely. They welcome Celta Vigo on Sunday after ending a run of three consecutive draws in the league with a convincing 3-0 win away at Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
