Report: Over 250,000 Palestinians Forcibly Displaced from Jabalia by Israeli Army

More than 250,000 Palestinians have been forcibly relocated from the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza as part of an Israeli military campaign, according to a report by the Hebrew news outlet Walla, cited by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency.

Unnamed Israeli security sources told Walla that the displacement was carried out under the ongoing “Gideon’s Chariots” operation, which aims to prevent Palestinian fighters from regaining access to their military infrastructure, both above and below ground.

Although the report did not specify the exact locations to which residents were moved, Israel has previously declared areas along the coast between Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah as designated “humanitarian zones.” However, those areas have also come under heavy Israeli bombardment in recent months, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of displaced Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The displacement is expected to continue for months, with plans reportedly in place for the full ‘evacuation’ of civilians from combat zones in Gaza to the south. Meanwhile, Israeli forces are said to be preparing for a long-term occupation of areas under their control.

Earlier in May, Haaretz reported that Israel intends to establish control over 75% of Gaza within the next two months.

Many Palestinians had initially fled northern areas toward western Gaza City, but those areas are now also experiencing intensified Israeli assaults. The Israeli military has blocked aid deliveries to northern Gaza, further deepening the humanitarian crisis and heightening the threat of famine.

Israel’s military bombardment, launched in October 2023, has so far killed more than 54,300 Palestinians—mostly women and children. Aid organisations continue to sound the alarm over the deteriorating conditions facing more than two million people in the enclave.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
