The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for the chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), due to his failure to respond to their invitation.
The Assembly previously provided a 72-hour notice for the RSIEC chairman and his commissioners to appear before them and report on the 2024 local government elections.
Justice Enebeli sought judicial intervention to prevent the legislators from further intruding.
Additionally, three out of the eight commissioners of the state’s electoral commission resigned over the weekend in light of the invitation.

The House, led by Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule issued an arrest warrant during its session on Monday after Enebeli failed to appear before them within the given 72-hour deadline.
Following a Supreme Court ruling invalidating the local government elections held on October 5, 2024, the RSIEC has scheduled a new local government election in the state for August 9, 2025.
