Nigeria’s Rivers United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round tie in Maputo.
The closely contested match saw the Nigerian side struggle to convert their chances, with the hosts capitalising on a defensive lapse to snatch a narrow victory.
Despite the loss, Rivers United coach Evans Ogunbosun remained optimistic about his team’s chances in the return leg in Port Harcourt.
He told reporters after the game that his players showed resilience but needed to improve in the final third.
“We created opportunities, but our finishing let us down. We’ll correct our mistakes and come back stronger at home,” Ogunbosun said.
Rivers United will now aim for a decisive win in Nigeria to overturn the deficit and advance to the group stage of the continental competition.
