Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reported the fatalities of at least 21 individuals resulting from a serious head-on crash between a heavy-duty truck and a commercial passenger bus on the Zaria-Kano Expressway.
In a statement released on Sunday signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said that the accident took place around 8:20 a.m. at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsale, attributing the incident to a “route violation” committed by the bus driver.
“Preliminary investigations by FRSC rescue and crash investigation team revealed that the crash was caused by route violation on the part of the commercial Toyota Hiace Bus driver, who contravened established traffic regulations and drove against traffic flow, resulting in a fatal head-on collision with the oncoming truck,” the statement said.
The Corps added that a total of 24 individuals were involved in the accident, with only three managing to survive with injuries.

According to the FRSC, the deceased victims’ bodies have been taken to the Nasarawa Hospital in Kano, and efforts to clear the road and restore traffic have been made following the rescue operations.
In response to the disaster, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed his sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and assured the public that investigations are underway.
The agency also took this opportunity to issue a strong reminder to commercial and truck drivers regarding the dangers of reckless driving.
The Corps announced plans to enhance enforcement activities and public awareness initiatives nationwide, while urging commuters and motorists to report any dangerous driving habits through the FRSC Mobile Application, call the toll-free number 122, or approach any FRSC patrol team.
