Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has reappointed Robert Beugré Mambé as prime minister, restoring him to the post barely two weeks after his resignation.

Mambé stepped down earlier this month following December’s parliamentary elections, in which the ruling Rally of Houphouëtists for Democracy and Peace secured an overwhelming majority, winning 197 of the 255 seats in the National Assembly.

He was also returned to parliament as the representative for Songon.

A veteran public servant with more than four decades of experience, Mambé previously served as governor of the Abidjan autonomous district from 2011 to 2023 and earned a reputation as a low-profile technocrat when he was first appointed prime minister in 2023.

Although his initial nomination surprised many political observers, his reappointment was widely anticipated.

Earlier this month, Ouattara publicly commended Mambé and his cabinet for their performance in office.

The decision signals continuity following Ouattara’s own landslide victory in the October presidential election. Mambé is expected to unveil a new government in the coming days.
