Colombian footballer James Rodriguez has resumed training after a recent health scare, with Minnesota United Football Club dismissing reports that the midfielder was suffering from a serious medical condition.

The 34-year-old was hospitalised for several days last week due to severe dehydration after falling ill during Colombia’s 3-1 defeat to France on March 29 in Landover, near Washington.

Speculation in some US media had suggested Rodríguez was dealing with rhabdomyolysis, a potentially life-threatening condition involving muscle breakdown. However, Minnesota United said there was no medical evidence to support those claims.

The club said its medical team found no clinical or laboratory signs of the condition, stressing its commitment to protecting players’ health and privacy.

“Minnesota United FC takes the health and privacy of its players seriously,” the Major League Soccer side said in a statement.

“The club and our medical professionals can unequivocally state there has been no clinical or laboratory evidence of rhabdomyolysis.”

Rodriguez has since been discharged and has been recovering at home before returning to the club’s training ground on Monday, where he took part in a monitored session. Minnesota added that his full return to team activities will depend on medical guidance and his recovery progress.
