Former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney believes that the club has lost its essence and lacks confidence in the struggling manager, Ruben Amorim, to make improvements.
After suffering a 3-1 defeat against Brentford on Saturday, Amorim has garnered only 34 points from his 33 Premier League matches in charge and has not achieved back-to-back wins in the top flight.
Last season, United experienced its poorest league performance in 51 years, finishing a disappointing 15th in the Premier League.
Despite spending heavily during the summer transfer window to acquire Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, they now find themselves in 14th place on the table following their most recent loss.

Rooney, the club’s all-time leading scorer, said that he attends matches anticipating a loss for the team.
“I just don’t know what’s going on,” the 39-year-old said on his BBC podcast.
“I have tried my hand in management and it didn’t work out too well, so I get it. Ruben Amorim is my age, he’s still a young manager and I’m sure he’s got a massive future, but what’s going on at Man Utd, this is not Man Utd.
“I honestly hope he can turn it around and he does. But… after everything I’ve seen, honestly, I’ve got no faith in it.”
The former captain of both United and England added that he no longer recognises the club and that the team’s culture, which dominated English football for two decades under Alex Ferguson, has disappeared.
