Russia Condemns US Strikes in Venezuela

Russia condemned the US military operation in Venezuela on Saturday, stressing that there was no valid justification for the strikes

“This morning, the United States committed an act of armed aggression against Venezuela. This is deeply concerning and condemnable,” the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement.

“The pretexts used to justify such actions are untenable. Ideological hostility has triumphed over businesslike pragmatism,” it added.

Venezuela is Russia’s key ally in South America, although the Kremlin has refrained from extending aid to Caracas in the event of a clash with the US.

The statement did not reference Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, whom US President Donald Trump claimed was captured during the military operation in the South American nation.
