Russia Says Zelensky’s Trip to US Was ‘Complete Failure’

Russia declared Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky‘s visit to the United States had been a “failure” following a startling televised altercation with US President Donald Trump.

Zelensky had intended to sign a minerals agreement with the US during the visit, but it was ruined when Trump and Vice President JD Vance called the Ukrainian leader “disrespectful” in front of the US and foreign media.

As it battles Russia’s full-scale offensive that began in 2022, Kyiv had hoped the deal would open the door for security assurances from Washington.

According to a statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson, Mary Zakharova, on Saturday, March 1, 2025, “the visit of the head of the neo-Nazi regime, V. Zelensky, to Washington on February 28 is a complete political and diplomatic failure of the Kyiv regime.”

Moscow frequently uses the charge that Ukraine harbours “neo-Nazism” as a justification to launch its onslaught against the country, which Kyiv and Western leaders deny as untrue and ridiculous.

“With his outrageously boorish behaviour during his stay in Washington, Zelensky confirmed that he is the most dangerous threat to the world community as an irresponsible warmonger,” said Zakharova.

Accusing Zelensky of being “obsessed” with continuing the fighting, Zakharova added that Russia’s military goals in Ukraine were “unchanging.”

Moscow has been gaining ground on the battlefield for over a year, pressing their advantage against Ukraine’s overstretched and outgunned army.
